This year's annual Senior Citizens Variety Show was held at the Knutsford Civic Centre on Sunday afternoon 13th February. The main entertainment was provided by the Lions Youth Brass Band and the Opus 5 group of singers. Also featured were two sketches performed by members of the Knutsford Lions!
The Lions Youth Brass Band (based in Sandbach) is sponsored by several Lions Clubs in Cheshire and has excelled at many competitions since it was formed in 1989. They regularly perform at Charitable Events and proved extremely popular with a wide range of popular music (singalong encouraged) and several pieces featuring young soloists.
The finale featured Al Capone (who also wrote the script) with two attractive? young? ladies? and a group of gangsters recruited specially for the parts from Knutsford Lions. After many weeks of rehearsals, the excellent perfomance (at least we thought it was!) included singing and dancing and a comedy sketch associated with the themes of Chicago and St Valentine's Day - and raised much laughter from the audience! The cast have been granted a 12 month timeout in order to allow the audience to recover in time for next year's Variety Show!
